We have a bunch of things on our to-do list, between the renovations on the condo, getting the boat ready to go into the yard and getting ready to cruise to Alaska and beyond. We had our post-it notes with the tasks on flip chart paper before we moved out of the house, but we’ve improvised on the boat, using the aft salon window. We’ve grown addicted to the satisfaction of crossing off a task, and sometimes we (OK, I) get upset when we do something useful that is NOT on a sticky…

Captain’s License Course
I am working on my Captain’s License, using an online system that was recommended by a fellow SYC member – https://www.marinerslearningsystem.com/
I got the “Captain in a Box” course, which contains a full set of printed course materials in addition to online access via their portal. It’s very easy to use, and the self-paced learning fits my style. I like having the option of using the portal online or the books for offline reference. I just finished the first module, and as a result got this sticker. Not really sure what I am supposed to do with it…. so might as well display it proudly here 🙂
My goal is to take the test in May.
Snow at Rosario
We headed over to Rosario Resort to celebrate Gwen’s birthday this weekend. It was a really nice day enjoying the spa facilities and a birthday dinner at the Mansion Restaurant. We woke up this morning to snow flurries. It’s 36 degrees, so nothing is going to stick… but it will be fun boating back home through the snow.
Winter in Anacortes
We’ve finally made the move from Seattle up to Anacortes, where we own, but have rented out for the past couple of years, a condo in Skyline. The condo is having some remodeling done, so we’ve been living on the boat for the past couple of weeks. We were greeted with plenty of snow and cold weather, as you can see here.
We survived the winter weather surprisingly well. The boat stays plenty warm, though we are giving the diesel heater a big workout. The biggest issue has been water (getting a bit low) and holding tank (getting a bit high). The local pumpout guy made it over after the worst of the snow, and as soon as it warmed up, we will fill up the water tanks.
Here’s the view out of the port side of the pilothouse.
And one looking back up towards the condo. Our unit is just to the left, out of this photo.
This was the view looking south from the Skyline Marina entrance the day after the storms.
